This cookie forged friendships, made long nights at the library a bit more bearable, and was the first glimmer of SukiCakes as a business. Chocolate chip cookies are like best friends. And my best friend for the past 17 years is Junior (real name Olumide). Although we haven't lived in the same state in over a decade our bond is strong and we've seen each other through all things big and small and in between. This cookie is a love letter to my years working at Starbucks. When I was 17 years old I moved to Southlake, Texas. A few years ago I made a 3 layer German Chocolate cake, packed it up and brought it as my carry on for the short flight from Los Angeles to Fresno to surprise my mom for her birthday. It's the New Year! It's the season for oranges and ... owls? Growing up, Owl New Year was as big as Santa and the Easter Bunny. Legend has it that if you don't bathe before bedtime, when you wake up in the new year, you will have tuned into an owl! Safely tucked into bed, I would listen for that foreboding hoot, knowing that someone out there was morphing. Naturally, I took this very seriously and to this day, I'm careful that we are all bathed (even the four legged fam) on New Year's Eve. You don't want to wake up in a bed of feathers, do you?
